VALYN

.

Valyn Bloodthorn   blood elf demon hunter. He/Him. Herald of The Sanguine Eye.

A peerless master of fel-magic and blade, Valyn hunts to achieve his true destiny—to one day eradicate all enemies of Quel’thalas and usher in a new era of blood elven sovereignty. Undeterred by the price he has to pay, Valyn continues to feast upon the demons of the Burning Legion even as his body and soul are warped by the corruptive influence of fel-magic. Valyn treads a tightrope with only two possible outcomes: either he holds control over the demon within him or the dark powers he courts consumes him completely, turning him into the very thing he seeks to destroy.

RP HOOKS

.

"You’ll always have a weakness for me. I did what you only ever considered, the things you were too afraid to."

Herald

As Herald of the Sanguine Eye, Valyn acts with the Overseer’s authority and voice. Those seeking direction, clearance, or answers when the Overseer is otherwise occupied will find him approachable, if not always gentle.

Sunfury

Valyn retains strong Sunfury ideals and sympathies, and does not hide them. Discussions of power, sacrifice, and the future of Quel’thalas tend to draw his interest. Fellow Sunfury, idealists, or critics alike may remember the elf from his time as an up and coming fel-caster and Magister before the fall of Prince Kael’thas Sunstrider.

Illidari

Fellow Illidari might know Valyn as an enduring friend, once an ally to demon hunter initiates at the Black Temple, summoning demons for them to train against. He has since the defeat of the Legion joined the ranks, a true blooded brother bound to the hunt forever. Brothers, sisters, or those seeking an Illidari are free to approach the now ascendant demon hunter and may even know him.

Felblood

Fel’s corruption runs through Valyn’s blood and soul, visibly so upon his hands, skin and the horns that crown his crimson hair. His nature is difficult to ignore and though he is still more elf than demon, there are undoubtedly those that might find their tolerance tested by his presence.

Lord

Bloodthorn? Bloodborn? The bastard scion of one house and the disowned heir of the other. Those born of high blood might know Valyn as a noble lord— at least prior to his joining the Illidari. Though the origins of whether he belongs to house Bloodthorn or Bloodborn are unclear it is clear that the elf is of noble pedigree.

Peacock

Valyn is unapologetically dramatic and aware of it. He has a hedonistic desire for revelry that can rival even Saltheril’s. Many elves might know the blood elf for the rather extravagant parties, gatherings and galas he has hosted— particularly during his time as a Magister and prior to his transformation into becoming a demon hunter. Frequent party-goers might know him from one of his previous gatherings or from other functions.

The Warlock

An unassuming bastard lordling, mediocre at best in mastering the arcane— it wasn’t until the fall of Quel’thalas and the blood elves’ introduction to fel-magic that Valyn found an unnatural affinity for demonic sorcery.Rising within the ranks of the Sunfury and fiercely loyal to Prince Sunstrider, Valyn was initially stationed at Manaforge Ultris before being sent to aid the Illidari of the Black Temple. There, the warlock’s talents were honed and harnessed to summon demons for Illidari initiates to feast upon and train against. Ambition unrestrained, even after defecting from the Sunfury and becoming Magister of Silvermoon he was known even amongst other warlocks to be particularly reckless with his pursuit of greater powers. It was this very same ambition that led him to The Sanguine Eye and its enigmatic warlock master: Overseer Tal'enthiel Sunshard. Together the pair pushed the boundaries of fel-magic further than most blood elves. It was not until this overreach proved far too great even for his appetite that fate intervened and the culmination of the warlock's ambitions became a metamorphosis from fel-caster to demon hunter.

The Demon Hunter

Born out of necessity and ambition to contain the ever-growing nexus of fel-magic cultivated within his body and soul— Valyn’s transformation into a demon hunter came from both need and sacrifice. Though at first he had sought the power of the Illidari as a means to his own ends; the ritual of becoming a demon hunter changed Valyn forever. No longer driven by power-lust alone, he views the damnation of his body and soul to demonic corruption as a necessary sacrifice that has corroded reflection but given him the power and ability to destroy the enemies of the Sin’dorei.Having found kinship amongst the Illidari even following the Legion’s defeat he earns the martial and infernal knowledge and power he has inherited with each hunt, demon and aberration slain. Even amongst the group of already blooded predators his prowess has forged bonds of kinship and respect not easily broken.

The Herald

The position of Herald did not exist until a restructuring of the Sanguine Eye’s leadership that saw previous Surveyors and Oathbinders depart from service. With a void left to fill, Valyn took it upon himself to become the Overseer’s right hand— his Herald. As the Overseer’s second, the Herald acts as both executor and advisor, a brutal harbinger of the Sanguine Eye’s power against the enemies of the Sin’dorei and further symbol of their power for the oathsworn to rally with.A controversial figure to the Oathsworn at times, Valyn’s reckless, power-hungry and often impulsive nature has often given others cause to question his loyalties only for these concerns to be assuaged by an act of sacrifice from the elf— a cycle that has occurred more than once during the elf’s tenure within the Sanguine Eye.For those few that have caught rare glimpses beyond his flamboyant bravado and megalomania have seen the elf’s true nature— fierce loyalty to the only order to have ever nurtured his power, ambition and passion and his beloved Overseer— no sacrifice, no amount of blood nor price is too great in service of his kin and fellow Oathsworn. Those who know the Herald personally however— likely know better than to accuse him of such foolish weakness and he himself prefers it this way.

Destiny

Once, Valyn’s ambitions were simple in their excess. Power without limit. Mastery without ceiling. Immortality, if possible. Apotheosis, if it could be stolen. Perhaps even a crown to replace Quel’thalas’ greatest loss, and who better, who more charming and beautiful than Valyn? Like the greatest egomaniacs of his era, he did not wish to simply serve a higher power—he wanted to become one, to be god-like.It’s ironic then, that the corruption and metamorphosis that reshaped his body and soul, the very same that primed him to contain the powers he so coveted, changed also this very simple if lofty ambition.Where Valyn’s desires once pointed only ever inward, his ascendance into the ranks of the Illidari has reshaped this passion outward (for better, or worse.). Power for the sake of power alone is no longer the elf’s only desire, it needs to be spent and spent hard, tempered by purpose. To be turned against those who would see the Sin’dorei broken, diminished, or erased. If that power destroys him in the process, so be it—better to die as a supernova than to live wanting.Even those that know the elf intimately find it difficult to predict the path that he seeks to take. Whether it is a continued descent (or ascent depending on who you ask) towards power and corruption, eradication of all that stand against his kin or perhaps an eternal hunt for both— it’s clear that even as a demon hunter there are no restraints to how far he is willing to go.If Valyn once fancied the idea of himself as a would-be prince of Silvermoon alone, he now sees himself as one to the outcast and wretched, the exiled and the reviled— and after all, why not? Even elves utterly corrupt deserve to have someone to aspire to.

STORIES

.

"The horned man that grew out of him—and Fenith does imagine him emerging from fleshy chitin like a terrible black moth—casts long shadows through the house. She imagines him peering through the walls with his empty eyes, unconcerned with moribund things like blood and mortar and bone, looking straight into her soiled soul, kin-to-kin." ~ Fenith Silkwing
